i love bringing my chicken maple in! but i don't know anyone who brings chickens in. let me know if you bring your chickens in or not! (i have maple with me right now!)

I'm pretty uptight about germs in my home, haha. I think it's the only thing that restrains me...

(So what I'm doing is working on getting the chickens on my back porch. At least one already runs to my kitchen window for treats 😆)

Yes! I keep chickens inside if they are molting or sick. I do let the molting ones back outside during the day.

Yes, I do. I have a few that live inside with me because they are handicapped but they do have their own personal pin for when they go outside during the day. They all have been diaper trained since they were chicks.

Occasionally I do get visit from my very first rooster too. He helps himself in on occasions and leaves once he checks everything out. Lol

My matriarch (an 8 year old Araucana) shouts at the back door to be let in for a private dinner of mealworms when she feels the need. I open the door, she marches into the utility room, I give her a dish of (live) mealworms, and shoo her out when she's finished. It's sort of cute

We keep six "hospital" cages in the house in case any of our chickens start struggling in the heat. It gets up to 116F / 47C here. The hens can come in and cool off for as long as they need to. Each cage can hold two chickens so we can bring the entire flock indoors if needed. We have cameras in the coop and run and pens to keep an eye on them in the heat.

We also have violent storms. An EF1 tornado touched down not too far from here and pulverized our original run and pens (we got everyone into the coop in time so the chickens were okay). We can bring the whole flock indoors ahead of a storm, with a little bit of warning.

Each hen is picked up and held every day so we can handle and carry them without stressing them out.

I have three hens inside full time at the moment...
1. Our blind house hen, Ebony (AKA Mamacita)
2. Our half lame Barred Rock, Luna
3. Molly (bsl) who is recovering from some injuries.

Plus, all three of our boys come inside every night to spare the ears of our delicate suburban neighbors...

Between the birds, two large dogs, two teenage girls, a 2-year-old son, and hubby and I... (All in in 1200 sqft Rancher) It's a party in here!

Lol I know the feeling we are similar except we are in a tiny home of 400 sq ft. What were we thinking 😆 it makes it fun and exhausting at the same time. Never a dull moment
