When it gets cold this winter, i'm afraid my water will freeze everyday. The coop has no electric, and I don't want to run a chord across the yard for a heat source. I have a 3 gallon waterer that usually lasts for a couple of weeks. Are there any options, other than giving them fresh water...
There is no way they hid the eggs. I checked everywhere when I went in the coop. They are in the nest boxes as we speak. I might have more eggs in just a few minutes.
OK I got 2 Buff Cochin hens 11 days ago. They didn't lay for a week. Thursday, I finally got 1 egg, then nothing........until today. I checked last night before I went to bed and there were no eggs. This morning I went out to check and there was 11 eggs!!!!! I have 3 nest boxes and there...
It took them 8 days to adjust from the move, but I had an egg this morning. It is so small and perfect. I will need 6 to make an omelet, so I hope they really kick it into gear. I'm so proud.
I don't have anything on the top of my run and haven't had any problems yet. I have two dogs outside and they keep predators away. I know hawks can still get in if they wanted to but I haven't seen a hawk near by. I'm not saying it won't or can't happen, but I'll wait till something happens...
I just bought them a week ago, and they were laying then. I realize that they have to adjust for a while, but I thought the light in the coop might have something to do with it. I guess they just need more time.
My coop is not very light inside. The only light that gets in is through the chicken door, and a 2' x 1' hole in the door(covered with plexiglass). It is not real dark, but not super light. Could this be the reason I haven't got an egg yet? There is no electric, but a can run an extension...
Right now my chickens are standing in the pouring rain when they have a nice cozy coop they could be in. Not very smart, but I love them and they are a great conversation piece.
You're not alone. It's been a week for my new hens and still no eggs. I'm starting to get frustrated, but all the nice people on this website keep telling me to just give it more time.
I got my chickens about a week ago, and they are not laying. The guy I bought them off of had them in a small cage, just enough room to turn around. Although my coop and run are kinda small, it is like a mansion to them. The first night they slept on the floor, the second night on the lower...
