I have 3 buff orpingtons and 1 buff brahma. The one that died was an easter egger and one of my buff orpingtons is sick. I have given them watermelon which seemed to help her a little bit. I have noticed mice around, could they pass something on? The temp outside the day the easter egger died...

    Is it the heat?

Help! So I lost a chicken 2 days ago. It has been over 100 degrees here in Salt Lake. Now I have another chicken acting lethargic and won't eat. She seems to have lost weight and her crop today seemed empty. She has been drinking a little water and her eyes and nose are clear. Her comb is a...

I am just worried about the -2 degree part. Any tips or suggestions? Last year we rarely used the heat lamp. I...

One of my girls molted too! It was like 9 degrees and that is when she thought it was a good time. I was so worried about her being cold but every time I went to check on her she was warm warm warm!!! Straw has helped a ton this winter!

    Heat lamp thoughts!

Thank you for you comment! My chickens have been happy happy happy since I got the straw. They are now brave enough to walk across the yard in the snow and find my covered patio. They then went in the cat door, through the garage and when my husband came into the kitchen, they were in there...

    Heat lamp thoughts!

We are in the middle of finishing the coop/shed. The lamp isn't as close to their coop as it looks. Today I picked up the hen who is molting the most to make sure her bare skin isn't freezing and she is super warm!!! They seem happy and loving the hay

    Heat lamp thoughts!

Last year they were fine in the cold. They have a large run and the coop goes into a shed we just build. They also can go in the shed if the wind is bad. They seem to be fine so far. When I laid down hay today they seemed very happy to scatch and play with it. Ill post a picture tomorrow so you...

    changing coop location!

Hey all! So I have decided to move my coop to the other side of the yard. My hens have been in the coop and in that area for over a year. I am moving their coop before winter because I believe it will be more shady and cooler in the summer as well as more protected from snow in the winter. My...
