I found a hatchery that is located near Palmer, Alaska. I ordered seven female and two male Production Reds. They are supposed to be good layers and weather hardy. Pickup date is March 26th.

There is a lot to this. I had one more aggressive hive that made it through three winters here. I’ve been hosting Carniolan bees, but wonder if Russian bees would be better. Thanks for the article.
We have one old hen left that lives in the high tunnel. I’m setup for bigger numbers now, but stuck finding fertile eggs. Probably have to wait for spring. I’ll get in trouble again for the wrong topic in the thread.
A high tunnel is basically an unheated greenhouse. Steel tubing and plastic cover. Falls between an open field and a heated greenhouse.
