North to Alaska!

Thanks a lot for the information! :) Being on BYC, I've been trying to ascertain what kind of climate I have compared to places in america, seeing as that's where most people here are from. Climate can have a lot to say for outdoor poultry keeping, after all
Yes, it makes a huge difference!

Hey yall, I don’t really want to explain my question again so uhh…

This year Juneau has been hammered! But usually it is a mild area. The biggest issue there is that land and housing is difficult to come by.

Also, chicken feed is expensive. Feed up here is close to 30 bucks for a 50 pound bag. For most things, the closer you are to Anchorage the less expensive. If you are off the road system prices jump up.

Read the article in my signature line... it goes over cold weather chicken keeping.

All,

It’s probably too soon, but I would really like to come up with some fertile eggs. Any good sources in Alaska?
I would think anyone with a flock and a rooster? But maybe fertility is low when it is so cold?

Can you ask at local feed stores?

Or maybe call feed stores up in Anchorage and Mat-su area? Not sure how often you go to Anchorage.

Thanks. Nothing available locally. Don’t know about Anchorage. It’s 310 miles from here. We go there maybe once a month. Just thought someone might know a source.
