My family has a friend who brews his own beer. He sometimes offers us barley to feed the chickens, and we've never turned it down. they appear to love it and all we have to do is pick it up and dry it, usually toasted in the oven until dried. I'm sure it's healthy for them. Does anyone else do...

8 weeks sounds good. BTW Scratching for scratch warms them up so its a great winter treat.

It is good to mix the scratch with shells and grit to aid digestion- this is what I do. I call it Chicken Trail Mix. Chickens love it!

How about a tip explaining the benefits of different types of coops? (tractor, stationary, etc.)

Throw treats in the coop, and when they're all in, close it and put a tarp over it to keep the area dry.
