@21hens-incharge We saved A LOT of money! If it wasn't for the free pallets we never would have been able to afford to build a coop this large! Pallets are so useful and I think too often they are overlooked.

The coop is still under construction. It still needs the sides completed, windows finished, and paint. However it is to a point that we can put chickens in it! I will update as we progress.

:( I'm sorry to hear that... What concerns me a bit though, is that the foxes came out in broad daylight like that. That often means they are diseased.
I wouldn't eat them, but I'm not totally sure if it would be safe or not.....But what I can tell you is that she may be pecking at the eggs because she has a calcium deficiency, in which case oyster shells fed to her would help. Oh and I wouldn't bother cooking the eggs....they love um' raw...
Assuming it's been fairly hot in your area, she's probably hot. They will open their mouths as you described, and pant. Also, if she gets hot enough she'll probably begin to hold her wings out from her sides. I don't know of anything else that would cause her to do this.
