I think it would be okay with my layer girls ( I have eight) but I also have 20 red rangers who have grown much faster and are even bullying my layers who are the same age! I need to just put my new chick in with my layers and separate my meaties I think but need another big brooder for that! lol
I had twelve eggs in the incubator and only one hatched (it was my first time hatching and apparently I'm bad at it, lol). I have other chickies who are 2 weeks old but I'm afraid to put the new chick in with them until it gets a little bigger and it has been in the incubator since saturday...
I have 12 RIR eggs in the incubator and this is my first hatching. I started hearing peeps saturday night and then there was a pip yesterday afternoon. My boys stayed up late for the action and our first little chick came shooting out of its shell around 10:30pm. We were all very excited and...
Oh, wow! I will be following your post as I am doing just about the same for the first time! My eggs should come in the mail around noon and I'm also using the dry method in a little giant :) This is my first time hatching though so it will be awesome to be able to compare what I'm doing with...
I'm so excited, my sons and I bought our incubator and ordered hatching eggs today! Here in about three days we will have a dozen rhode island red eggs warming up to hatch! I think my sons (2 and 5) are almost as excited as I am to hatch eggs for the first time :)
I am actually planning on hatching eggs for the first time and my two sons and I just bought our little giant today from our local tractor supply. I would really love to find a batch of rhode island reds to put in there in the next couple of weeks. Any chance one of my Indiana peeps have some...
I would love a batch of these! Just a mix would be great as they are mostly for my sons to have fun hatching and then they'll be added to the pack, lol :)
Okay, so I haven't had chickens in about a year and a half and have chicks coming in three weeks. I only ordered pullets this time because the last time I had chickens I had a very bad experience with roosters. Last time my straight run chicks had three cockerels in the bunch. One mysteriously...
Hey everyone! I'm just returning to the world of chicken keeping. Come mid-february I will have 7 new future egg layers and 20 meat birds. I've kept layers before but this will be my first time keeping meat chickens! I'm in Indianapolis btw :)
Thank you both! I knew adding new chicks later would be tricky. We'll see how this time goes and if I want to try again I may make a separate area for them. Thanks again!
I am in an urban setting and have had egg layers in the past. I have a storage shed converted to coop with a run but would let them free range in my yard and garden most of the time. I'm starting a new flock and decided to get some meat birds(red rangers from mcmurray) as well. My question is...

Well, hopefully if all goes well I'll have some in southwestern Indiana next year. I am planning on keeping 15-20 Dels, so I am sure I could hatch you some or send you some eggs next year if you are still interested in them.
I would love that! I've considered just ordering some from...
