Our chickens have been hiding their eggs in the blackberry brambles and my husband finally got around to clipping them back. We found 14 eggs and did the float test. None of them floated and in fact most of them lay on their side. So we thought they would be good. WRONG! We just went...
We had three Ameraucanas (from a breeder) and they were super loud starting when the light came out (at 5am in the summer) until mid day. And they bocked super loud when one lost sight of the other two. While we are allowed three chickens per our ordinance, that much bocking was unacceptable...
Our three ameraucanas are 2 years old and went through a hard molt in the fall. They haven't laid an egg since October either. Getting a little impatient. We also don't use any artificial light and have been feeding them layer feed and they free range all day.
Hi all, I posted this in the bay area listing, but wanted to see if anyone wanted our Ameraucana roosters here. We visit Amador city regularly, so could get these roosters between here and the foothills.
We got some straight run Ameraucanas from John Blehm last year and my brother in laws...
We got some straight run Ameraucanas from John Blehm last year and my brother in laws have been keeping the two roosters - a Wheaton and a Silver. They don't want them anymore. They grew up together and are friendly with one another. If anyone in the SF bay area or anywhere in the deliverable...
Hi fellow Bay area BYCers
I was one of the people who got straight run Ameraucana chicks last year with SunnyDawn. I can only have hens where I am, so we gave two roosters to my brother in law in the Foothills. A Wheaten Ameraucana Rooster and a Silver Ameraucana Rooster. Unfortunately they...
We got some straight run Ameraucanas from John Blehm last year and my brother in laws have been keeping the two roosters - a Wheaton and a Silver. They want to kill them tomorrow because they just don't want to keep the roosters any more. If anyone in the SF bay area or anywhere in the...
Out of 13 we ended up keeping three - black, silver and wheaton pullets. Unfortunately the wheaton is clean faced. How common is that?
We gave the rest to my in-laws, but something got into the chickens up there and only one pullet and a number of roos survived up there. If someone wants a...
We use rice hulls and they work great! The rice hulls adhere to the poop and dry on it encapsulating the poop partially. The chicks stay clean although they love scratching in the shavings and kicking it up so you have to sometimes clear the water. We'll always use these! And it goes great...
I'd love to see some more pics of people's Dorkings if you have any. I love the colored Dorkings and white ones would be a great dual purpose.
I wish my backyard were large enough so that I could start a breeding heritage flock, but it's only in my dreams at the moment.
Thanks!
Nina
We're going to make our brooder soon and our backyard has been leveled and we will be building the coop and run in the next few weeks!
I'm so excited! Still trying to work out the coop design though.
I wouldn't think that the diapers would not protect as well during shipping as bubblewrap unless you were to surround the diapers with bubble wrap too. The diapers don't expand until they are wet. They are rather flat otherwise.
