Please tell me they'll quiet down!?

We had three Ameraucanas (from a breeder) and they were super loud starting when the light came out (at 5am in the summer) until mid day. And they bocked super loud when one lost sight of the other two. While we are allowed three chickens per our ordinance, that much bocking was unacceptable. We sent them out to the country and got three new Red Stars from someone who had raised them to egg laying stage. They are super quiet which is a blessing. Don't know if it's the breed or because they are super people friendly. But I hope they continue to be this quiet!

It does seem to be breed related. The Red Stars I had talked a little bit, egg song didn't last that long. Hardly a word from any of my Marans. The Welsummer sang like a banshee. Every light white layer I had from Lakenvelder to Hamburg had a heck of an egg song and that racket when they want something.

Recently I downsized to what was supposed to be 3 of my Marans for an impending move, but you know how chicken math is. So I took the last 4 I had to sell and bought 2 POL, a Black Star and a Dekaulb Amberlink. So far they seem quiet, the Black Star especially.

I cant imagine having to keep my birds quite-I have a baby monitor outside the boys are crowing now no girlie sounds yet a little early

We are allowed backyard chickens- just no roosters. Mine were very quiet till lately, and boy are they making a racket in the mornings. I have six and three of them are laying now, so two do the egg song very loudly. And they are really loud in the morning if I'm not able to let them out of their run to free-range. The other afternoon my RIR laid a bit later- around 1:30- and started her egg song. I could hear the toddler next door wake up from his nap and start crying, I'm sure the sound startled him, and I'm sure his mom wasn't too happy about it. All the neighbors have been pretty accepting about the chickens, and many dogs in the neighborhood have been louder, but I still worry about it. I don't want people complaining so much that they eventually rule out backyard chickens in our town. I do know of at least 8-10 other families in our small town with them, so maybe we'll be ok. And they are quiet as can be at night, which is the most important time for quiet I feel lol.
