    game cam thread!!

Really nice photos everyone! We have a pretty old game cam. Still works though. Had black bears in our yard one year and it got them on camera. Quite scary as we saw one of the bears in the daytime just across the street! We were in the garden and had to "herd" the grandkids into the house...

Brahma or Buff Orpington for kids?

Beautiful picture! We have California Whites, Buff Orpingtons and Silkies. The Silkie hens are wonderful and lay the cutest little eggs! We had them for about nine months before we got the other chickens. Since the three Silkies were pretty much grown, we introduced the Buffs and Whites to...

coop stinks - not sure where to start fixing

My chickens are finally venturing outside in their fenced in run since the weather has warmed up this week. (too much snow for them, but I shoveled some out and the temps had been way below zero.) I tried to clean the inside of the coop, but got one load of poop in the wheel barrow and said...

    Feed Prices...

For Layena pellets, I pay about .24/lb. ($12.00/50#bag). I get them at a local feed mill in Central MN. About 3 years ago you could get the 50# bag for under $8.00!

How much are you charging/where do you live?

Sell mostly to co-workers here in Central MN. I charge $2.00/dz (white or brown-med to large) Whatever my fun flock is willing to lay! Would like to raise my price, but don't want to lose my current customers!

    eating leghorns

We had some leghorns a few years ago. They were I think two years old when my husband and his mom "harvested" them. I couldn't bare to watch. When they were in the freezer, they weren't really big, but they sure tasted good!

    Your way to selling eggs?

I sell quite a few to co-workers for $2.00/dz. Have my "regular" customers there. I give away to family. I have one rooster and 28 hens. I get white eggs (from California Whites) and brown eggs (from Buff Orpingtons). I have three Silkies (bantams) and they lay the little eggs so we use...

    Layena® SunFresh® Recipe

Purina Layena pellets is all my chickens eat - they LOVE it and wouldn't feed them anything else. I will not use the feed mills' own mixture. Have to have Layena! (and of course treats!)

    White Worms in Poop

Thanks CMV! I checked them this morning and everything looks fine! Cleaned the coop - just dusted stuff off and took out some damp straw and replaced it. I think you were right about the worms being maggots as I didn't see anymore since I threw out the old poop yesterday! Thanks again...

    Chickens of the Rainbow

That's really interesting! That's why they like their feeder so much, it's red!

    White Worms in Poop

I'm going to check on my girls (and one guy) this morning. DH said that maggots couldn't live in chicken poop. That's why I was so worried about them. I have to clean the coop anyway. I am going to call the feed store and see if they have DE and an all purpose wormer. Really appreciate your...

    White Worms in Poop

I was cleaning up some of the poop inside the coop and noticed 1/4" white worms in some older poop. I was pretty grossed out! Never noticed worms before. I have three 10 month old Silkies and 13 Buff Orpingtons and 13 California Whites that are 3 months old. They all seem healthy. I did...

    Proud Mama

:D I received 10 Silkie chicks today. (from 2 weeks old to 3 weeks old.) A co-worker's silkies had hatched the eggs and they raised them in their bathtub until bringing them over this morning. My chicken coop was too empty since we gave our Leghorns (not laying anymore) to another co-worker...
