I put my manure out and let it age at least 6 months.
Do not use the manure on your tomatos, Plants will look awesome, but they won't fruit well. I have first hand knowledge of this. Corn on the other hand will do great with it.
I have a plan to build a catch system off the roof of my coop. But for now I just use a series of 5 gallon buckets to catch the run off. The chickens choose their water in this order.
1) muddy ground water
2) rain water in a waterer
3) tap water in the waterer.
I figure if rain water works for...
I have ten birds currently and my run area is just over 2000sq ft. They have plenty of space, but have scratched it down to nothing but dirt. No grass left at all. I'm in the process of building a larger run and dividing it up into 3-4 blocks where I can move them around to different areas every...
I built a 10x12 for my birds and put 4 double hung window in it. Plus the slider door that leads to their ramp to get in and out. Plus the roof is set on 2x4's and lets plenty of air thru there as well.
My grandpa did exactly the same when I was 3. I wouldn't hesitate to do the same today.
This coming on the same day I lost my rooster. He never came after us at all. Pretty cool bird, gonna miss him.
I'm not sure this is the rigth area for this thread, but I thought it would work here.
My wife called this morning and told me our rooster was dead. There was no sign of trauma. We were out with the birds yesterday making improvments on the fence and he was acting like he always did. He was a...
They absolutely will eat it to dirt. I have a 2048 sq' run and 11 birds. it was dirt in less than three months. I will be building at least 3 times that size later this year and rotate them thru each section to give the grass a chance to recover.
Our coop is 100-150 yards from the house. If you set up a good feed/water system for them, I have found one trip every day or two is plenty. You just have to account for how much your flock consumes and build your systems to exceed the period you plan to visit slightly.
Great ideas about...
I have ran into a similar situation. I have 11 birds in a 32'x64' run, which I thought would be more than enough. They had it down to dirt in no more than 3 months. I am now looking at building out 2 more larger runs, all tied together, and rotating the birds between the three. This will give...
Neat idea for the feeder. Did you drill holes in the bottom of the feeder to let the rain water drain out. Not sure where you live, but around here it would have standing water in it a lot of the year. It is a great idea and one that I believe I will borrow from you.
I'm still trying to pull...
When I finished our coop I built a fenced in area of 32' x 64' for the chickens run. We have 11 birds and they have taken the grass down to bare dirt. I am thinking about building on to the run and divide it into 3 sections where I can rotate them between spots and keep the grass in better shape...
The bannana melons I grew (I will asssume yours are the same) turn kind of orangeish when they are ripe. They will usualyy begin softening as well. That is one of my favorite melons.
Very good. I had planned on running the cobs thru a old sheller I got off e-bay to cut down on storage space, but I will start pulling some cobs from the plants and get them started.
I'll try and get the few pics up of the construction once I figure that out here. I assume you just need to run them thru something like photobucket and upload from there? Or can you download straight to the site?
