Heybarb my white chickie's wattles are not as long and comb not as tall as either of your buffs. I say roo for both. Don't you just love Cochins? You should get your boys some Cochin hens, you will love them just as much!
Aoxa.....BEAUTIFUL girl, I am in live with her ! What do you call that color?
This is a 10 week old cochin bantam from TSC as a chick. What gender? She acts very hennish, stance, etc. Cochins are usually easy to sex but this one has had me guessing.
Aha!! I think your right! I was just comparing baby pics of him to birchens. Here he is as a baby.
WEll, I guess I don't have a pic of him as a baby on this comp, but he had a lot of black over his body w/a little white under his chin and down his chest. Looked just like birchen cochin chicks...
how about now? They will be 6 wks old end of this week. This is Chick #1 with Chick #3, who I KNOW is a rooster. But I am baffled about the white one, Chick #1. It has feathered out quickly, has a round body, comb is not that red yet compared to the black one whose comb gets redder by the day...
I wonder about ear mites. If they get in their ears they can cause balance problems. Look it up on here for treatment, something about dropping veg or olive oil in her ears w/a dropper. Good luck with your baby.
How long can an egg stay under a broody before it starts to develop? The reason I'm asking is I have 2 broody hens but I don't want them to hatch anything, I'm collecting eggs for consumption. I don't want to crack one open that has a baby started, but most days I can't collect until almost dark.
I have these 3 what I think/hope to be cochin bantam chicks. I got them from the assorted bantam bin at TSC. What genders are we thinking?
CHick #1
Chick #2
CHick#3
I got these from the bantam bin at TSC. They are 4 wks old now, they looked alike when they were chicks also, so I presume they are the same breed. I got them thinking they would be splash EE. But it looks like their shanks are going to stay yellow and they seem to have rose comb - their combs...
hmm, i'm not sure. I have a white crested black about 11 wks in these pics. Mine kind of looks like yours (i.e. confusing) and I"m not sure about mine either.
At what age does the comb start to grow on a white crested black polish cockerel? In other words, when should I start seeing the "toothpicks" coming out of the crest? I'm trying to figure out if I have a male or female.
