How long to keep poults in the brooder?

I am pretty new to raising turkeys. I have 4 poults that are a month old. I have read a ton of different opinions some say 6-8 weeks some say 12-16 weeks! Right now they are in the brooder with chicks that are the same age. I have 3 blue slates (who I think are a bit older actually) and 1...

in this random rambling thread we post random pictures

We had twin calves born on March 16th. Red one is a bull and the black on is a heifer (yes probably a free martin). Got them up in a pen by the house so we can feed mama some extra grain and alfalfa hay

    March Hatch-A-Long

Set 41 eggs yesterday. Been about 2 years since I have hatched any out. Bought my first egg turner, so I hope it works well. I have a mixed flock, so they will be barnyard specials. My rooster is a Rhode Island Red and my hens are barred rocks, silver laced wyandottes, white rocks, and...

    What to feed meat birds?

Nutrena Meat Bird is great but only comes in a 40lb bag. The Purina Meat Bird food is also 22% but comes in a 50lb bag.

    No call, no show.

Hugs to you! I would look for someone else. Or even ask for recommendations from a FB swap group or local chatters group. I can't stand people that are late. I was taught to always be early.

Chicks chirping... how many to quiet the noise?

Chicks are like babies-- they only cry out when something is wrong. Not warm enough, out of food, out of water, dark, etc.

How many lbs of feed should I be giving?

I don't have any way of keeping food out at all times- no big feeders and I have never been a fan of that anyway. I have always been one to feed in the morning and evening. They are not laying right now- they are molting and were culled out because of it. They are 12-14 months old though. I...

How many lbs of feed should I be giving?

I have 100 hens in a large barn that are not free ranging at the moment. How many pounds of layer should I be giving a day? My hens have always free ranged or been in a large run area so this is all new to me. These are hens from a commercial barn so they are not predator savvy and I don't...

    Getting Commercial Layers to roost?

Today we bought 100 12-14 month old Bovan Brown layers. All of their lives they have lived in a commercial chicken barn...so never allowed to roost. Does anyone have any experiences for me? They are all molting right now and look awful- plus the lady we bought them from had only been feeding...
