Checking-In On Peeps - Post Here To Say Hello!

Hi, the flock was doing well so I didn't need to browse as much. Lost my Golden Comet over a year ago and now treating my nearly 5 year old Lakenvelder for either Marek's or nutrional deficiency, which is why I logged on and just saw the message asking about posting from last April...

Molting bird losing weight, loose poop

My gold laced Polish is going through her first molt, ahead of the other three in the flock. Lost her tail and primaries but there are pin feathers coming back in, but when I picked her up to check on them today I was startled by how much weight she's lost. She is not racing to get treats like...

    Fowl pox just getting started?

I'd have to screen the whole run, which actually I have considered except it would be hard for the top. Their coop has only three sides, the fourth is open to their large hardware cloth run.

    Fowl pox just getting started?

So I was taking a pic of my Golden Comet Xena today and noticed these small pustules. They look like what happens to me when I get bit by fire ants. One of my other hens, a Lakenvelder, also has these but the Polish girls don't appear to. Thoughts/recommendations? The coop is about to get a...

    Egg Trend?

Today her egg was late and colored ombre, light to darker and there were speckles in the darker, and it was definitely stronger. I'll cut out the treats for a week - I'm about to become very unpopular in the coop!

White feathers on gold laced Polish

I read somewhere else that the feathers might have been damaged in the pin stage. So maybe she got picked on. I'll know more after she molts next fall!

    Egg Trend?

And I don't think they're crowded; their combination run/open air coop is 8 X 8, and 8 feet high with the roost and nesting boxes on a raised level (not next to each other). On weekends I let them into their "side yard", which is fenced and hawk netted, for some scratching around.

    Egg Trend?

My red sex-link has been a champion egg layer, every day since her first egg on August 31. No changes in environment, she's the top hen in the flock and they were all raised together and usually get along great, my other three girls are all laying. They are just a couple of weeks shy of a year...

White feathers on gold laced Polish

OK, they are not great pics but here. You can see one feather that's coming in all white, and others on the other side of her head have developed white tips. Pardon the hack job, I trimmed her crest so she could see, and it's my first chicken hair cut.

White feathers on gold laced Polish

I'll take a pic tomorrow and post.

White feathers on gold laced Polish

Could be new, but why white? She's a black gold laced bird. The white really stands out and it's only on her head.

White feathers on gold laced Polish

Hi, does anyone know why my gold laced polish would start getting white tips on the ends of some of her crest feathers? It's like she had a fright and her hair went gray!

    Pullet stopped laying?

She's 27 weeks. She's active enough, she's a very quick little birb and always moving, eating and drinking and pooping normally. Before she stopped altogether, she was dropping eggs all over the run after being pretty good about laying in the nest, so maybe it's just new layer issues.

    Pullet stopped laying?

It’s been at least a week since she stopped laying. No other changes in the coop, food and water the same as it has been. She’s a bit flighty despite being handled since a baby.
