Hi,
I have a 2 1/2 month old Red Star pullet with a bare spot on her neck. The other chick we have doesn't have one, so I wasn't sure if I should be concerned. The spot appears on each side. ?
Thanks!

Oh dear. :) That happened to me when I was a teenager with a family duck my Dad identified as male, so Sherman he was. Until they went on vacation a year later and he disappeared. I found him on his nest of 8-10 eggs. That was a shock to me at the time. LOL...

I bought chicks from our local hardware store. When I got them they were a couple weeks old. They came from a hatchery.
So it sounds like it's something I don't need to rush to the vet over. :)

Hi,
I have 2 Red Star pullets hatched at the same time (about 2 months ago) and both appear to be doing well. One though is about 50% bigger than the other one. I would expect some variation but am surprised at this amount. Both appear to be healthy otherwise.
Is this much variation...
Thanks for the replies! Yes, while our old girl sleeps most of the time, she still seems unnaturally 'alert' when she's around the two young ladies. Will have to have close supervision until she passes on. Sadly, based on the breed that won't be much more than a year from now.

Hi,
I assembled a smaller coop yesterday (30"x57") and wanted to put the vinyl coated wire fencing underneath it (about a 2x4 grid pattern). My wife expressed concern that this would prevent the chickens from scratching and foraging.
Anyone done this? Had any issues with it?
Thanks!

Hi
Picked up a couple of Red Star chicks about 2 weeks ago and assembled a coop this afternoon. Up to now they've been entertaining me in a couple of large boxes in my home office.
We have 2 acres outside of Phoenix so we don't have to worry about cold winters much. Just our dog; will need...
