My daughter's first grade class hatched chicks about 3 weeks ago. We were blessed to receive this little critter. I believe it's a Polish, could be wrong, but wanted advice to see if I was correct and if so, which kind do you think? Laced, buff?
Thanks for the advice. Unfortunately two of my girls did get mild frostbite on the tips of their combs. Makes me angry quite honestly. They are more like pets and I've failed them. I've put some heavy duty cream on to help them heal. Just frustrated. Have to think hharder about the rest of the...
Just want to make sure my girls are ok. 0 degrees tonight. Heated water and food in enclosed coop. Tomorrow below zero temps, windchill 20 to 30 below. Small vent holes at very top of coop. Ones in the direction of the wind have been covered with a towel. Should I put them in the garage?
They are just shy of 9 months. So no heat lamp at night is needed then? What would I do with an electric tea kettle ? we have the electric water heater in the coop for now because they wouldnt go out all day. Ignorance on me.
Advice needed happy chooks or others: it is getting down to 3 degrees Fahrenheit tonight here in Missouri. We had to decide to either have heated water in the coop or put in a heat lamp as we only have one outlet. We figured water was more important as they weren't leaving the coop to use the...
I agree with the snuggling up for warmth but she is the outcast and they wont allow her to be next to them
They will be fine, even in winter. She won't go bare, it won't be a major molt, but even if it were, they'd be fine in he cold. They are smart about snuggling up to others.
Anybody? I havent posted because my girl isn't unwell from what I can telln not egg bound or bugs ir anything of the sort. . Just stressed I guess. Just asking to confirm. Flock of 6, all the same age, 8 months. My EE hasn't laid any eggs whatsoever in almost 4 weeks. She is healthy. Maybe...
Thanks for the advice again. Im a worrisome person by nature and havr become quite attached to my girls. This is my first attempt at raising from chicks since my elementary days. Here are a few pics of my ladies. this is in response to your comments on the soft eggs.
Alright happy chooks. My girls are between 24-26 weeks and have been laying pretty consistently. The smaller breeds have slowed a bit because the days are getting shorter. My question is over the last two weeks I have had probably 8 or so soft shelled/ shell less eggs. Most all of them are in...
