Ok, they have been separated during the day, free ranging together (as far apart as is chickenly possible though) when we are at home, and roosting together in the coop at night.
When can we put them all together during the day?
The poor new chicken is confined to the coop when we are not at...
My 2 hens sometimes sleep one on top of the other! lol! And one of them is always pecking at the other one-- one is a bully chicken and the other one is a chicken chicken.
Sounds like nothing to worry about.
They are separated, and are free ranging together in the daytime.
I'll try your suggestion of putting her in the coop at night.
Thanks bunches! Great suggestions!
I can separate the coop from the pen and put her in the pen for a couple of weeks. The other two will have to stay in the coop during the daytime while we're at work. Will that work?
Hopefully they will not have hurt her too badly while I'm at work today.
The new girl actually is BIGGER than...
Apparently during the day yesterday, we had a chicken explosion. I got home, took the dogs out, and was going to then let the chickens out-- BUT, they were all already out! The heavy gallon water dispenser was on its side, empty. The gate was open. The two older chickens were hanging out...
I have heard that I should add the new chicken at night so that they roost together and kind of wake up thinking that the new chicken is not so new-- sort of an "I woke up with an elephant in my bed" sort of tactic?
Any truth to this?
Any tips for adding a third to an existing duo of city...
One of my two chickens is obviously the "boss chicken" and does a mean job of plucking the other one.
The only solution we have found is additional outside the coop time. Then, the non-dominant chicken can run away from the other one.
Having said that, often times they hang around together...
I have two Americauna chickens in a coop with a tractor for them to mess around in several hours a day in my back yard. I don't know where the activity is occurring, but one of them is sleekly feathered and the other one looks like she molts way too often. I'm suspecting Miss Sleekly Feathered...
He's either in the attic or nailed up in the exterior roof under the attic-- how do I get RID of him???
There was a squirrel tunneling up into my attic a couple of weeks ago from the wood under the eaves-- my hubby checked the attic, didn't see any squirrels or anything else, and patched up the...
My 2 Americaunas are laying an egg a day or every other day, and I couldn't be happier-- but my third and last hen, a Black Australorp, has not laid an egg since we got her-- almost 2 weeks ago. This bird is full grown and is supposed to be a couple of years old (the Americaunas are about a...
I got a huge box of damaged apples (well they weren't damaged much-- my husband and I are eating half of them)at Kroger last week for $2.00 (YAY!) and my chickens have been getting 2-3 apples a day along with whatever they can scrape up out of the yard and a supply of pellets in the coop. They...
