Muscovy duck egg in incubator: turning or tilting? What about weight loss of the eggs?

Yeah, my eggs are coming in on sunday, it would be so much easier if I can just tilt them. Anyone hatched muscovies by just tilting the eggs?

Muscovy duck egg in incubator: turning or tilting? What about weight loss of the eggs?

Dear muscovy duck owners, after several successful batches of chickens, I will try to hatch muscovy ducks. However, I am not sure if I can put them in the automatic egg turner which only tilts the eggs 45 degrees or so. Does this work with muscovy duck eggs? And so far a have not found anything...

Sexing 4 week old chicks with fighting technique? Rooster or pullet?

Hi, my almost 4 week old chicks are fighting, as all chicks. What I observed is that some of the chicks are fighting by jumping with both feet forward, while others do not. Can I sex the chicks with this? I think only males fight with both feet forwards, is that right? Hope someone can help...

RFID tags used to report which birds are laying

Is anyone recording the egg laying of the chickens with RFID chips and smart nest boxes?

Use fungus Beauvearia bassiana against mites Dermanyssus galinae

Hi, I just read that the fungus Beauveria bassiana can be used against the poultry red mite Beauveria bassiana. This fungus can be bought as a liquid, and then either sprayed or applied to cardboard/sponges where the mites then go, and get infected. There are however different strains of the...

RFID tags used to report which birds are laying

Hi, do you have any update on your project? I am highly interested in having something similar, some researchers did also something interesting a bit later than you, as seen in the link below An RFID-Based Smart Nest Box: An Experimental Study of Laying Performance and Behavior of Individual...

Did the eggs get too cold in the coop and die? that may be another explanation.

    Incubator has uneven temperatures

I don't know your incubator, but insulation can help, and round incubators as well, as the air flows better

How do you hand turn incubator eggs?

I made it differently: I put a kind of rack in the incubator, and by pushing the rack all the eggs get turned at the same time. Some automatic egg turners work in the same way, I simply built mine with wood. Morning one side, mid-day other side, evening again turning.

    DIY incubators

I had friends build a still air incubator with a thermostat and a heating plate from aliexpress, I think the ones in the links below, and 18 of 21 eggs hatched. Heating plate on top, a few cm from the eggs, and the sensor of the thermostat at the height at the top of the eggs set to 38.2°C...

Ukrainian-made Portable Incubator (Broody Zoom 180)

I got a broken incubator to fix with the same type of fan as at the bottom, which was rusty. I think this is always a weak spot of incubators, as humidity gets quite high. No Idea about the producer or the brand however I have to say I like the concept as it uses quite little storage space when...

Size of air holes in still air incubators. What size are yours for how many eggs?

Hi, I am transforming a forced air incubator with a broken fan into a still air incubator. I think that the size of the air holes should be bigger, but don't know how much. Could you share how big the air vents are in your incubators, especially for still air incubators? My forced air...

    Mites...

http://milbenfalle.ch/ there is a type of mite traps, two electric wires, which may also help. Here are the a few movies where you see it in action http://milbenfalle.ch/videos.html Permethrin is quite toxic for some species (not humans though)
