My partner is from the Carolinas. I sure have learned a lot...

is that okra any count? Nope, it ain't no count.
Sorry, no count youngun
if something is especially bad, use THE in front--the dog had...
We have the same issue. Tiny lot, noisy girls. Although we tried to pick breeds that were supposedly quiet, our buff orps and slw are terrible. The earliest we had to get up last summer was about 4 a.m.
We haven't made the move to an automated door yet, (we are not handy), but the treats in...
Just got finished with a 10 day course of baytril antibiotics. 1.5 pills 2x per day. My vet gave me a "piller" and taught me to use it. It is a kind of syringe which hold the pill at the end and when it is in place, you push the plunger and the pill pops off.
Truly, as our hen got stronger...
Thanks everyone! Mom's--that sounds great! Our smallest hen is a smallish standard ee and then we have a large standard ee and some BIG girls (BO and SLW). I know the merlins hang out at our place because we are a favorite songbird hangout--they sometimes come for chicken leftovers but mostly...
One of our ee hens follows our mini aussie around whenever she goes in the yard. Many times if the dog goes doo, then hen will run up and peck her hairs on the front of her back legs. (kind of on the outside of her thighs, no where near the pooing region) I'm not sure, but I think the chicken...
Does anyone know? We've had a pair around the neighborhood for a while, which is cool. They are so rare. However, a couple times lately the male has been on our deck rail, shed roof, and today on our fence.
Now I know they are pretty small and eat songbirds, but are my hens in any danger...
Thanks, Purpletree. She actually was eating grower when she came down ill. On the advice of many, I switched to a new bag of food (in case of mildew) which is layer. All the girls had been eating the last of this year's pullets grower food.
Just thought I would give an update.
Our hen is still alive. We took her to the vet yesterday. They gave her fluids, a shot of antibiotics, and checked her out thoroughly. We had blood tests done too. Her color has been getting better and better since Monday. She came back clear on all her...
Thanks, GraceAK!
I posted and subscribed to that other thread in hopes of seeing some good advice. Things are still about the same, but her crop is not as hard as it was yesterday or this morning, and she is still alive!
Trying to think positively. I'm still nervous to force liquids with a...
I'm having a very similar problem too. I posted at https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?pid=3443917#p3443917
I read online here today though that chickens don't get jaundice like humans as a liver problem. So I don't know how to explain the yellowish tint. My hen is a SLW...
Update-
Her condition is mostly unchanged this morning. Yesterday afternoon/evening her poop turned the shavings pretty much neon green, bile right? This morning's poop looked a little more normal, some formed greenish black solids with watery white ureates and some watery liquid (clear not...
Nearly 2 year old SLW hen is lethargic--huddled on her own today. She isn't moving around much but does pick up her feet and peck at her own toenails (from the bottom). Her comb and wattles have been pale, she's just about regrown from a hard molt and hasn't been laying for a couple of months...
