I still have 7 ducklings this morning but I turned mama and babies out into the big chicken yard. That way, they aren't just "sitting ducks"! :) I worried about the chickens picking on them but mama has proven to be pretty vicious. They chickens seem to be steering clear of her.
On another...
I have a Muscovy mama who hatched out 9 babies. My males were trying to kill the babies so I locked mama and babies in a coop in the barn. I count the ducklings every morning and night. Yesterday morning there were only 8 ducklings. 1 had disappeared without a trace. This morning I am down...
Well, I was unsuccessful at hatching in the incubator. Everything was going great until the last few days. Maybe the humidity was too high. I added water for "lock down" and on top of the humid weather we were having, I think it was just too much.
On a brighter note, one of my muscovy hens...
They are really beautiful and not exactly like anything I found on google. Let's hope I can hatch some babies. I'm wondering what I'll get out of chocolate & lavender. Wish me luck!
Yes, the pigs keep us hopping!
I thought blue too but in lower light some feathers have a champagne look to them. Hopefully I can get some better pictures later.
Thank you! They are my first Muscovies and I just love them. They are so friendly and love to be around people. I collected and set 21 eggs in the incubator. I would love to let them hatch on their own, but my pigs steal the eggs. I have to stand guard over them while they are laying! Lol
I have a beautiful little flock of Muscovy ducks and I'm wondering what color these girls are for sure. From what I've seen online, I'm thinking lavender.
I'm glad you enjoyed it! My husband had the Musicians of Bremen on video disk (whatever that is) when he was a kid. I have listened to him and his brothers quote T.R. for years. One day I decided to look it up on youtube. I was glad I did, it is hilarious!
This little video always brings a smile to my face and at about the 3:50 point you will hear the inspiration for my screen name. It's The Musicians of Bremen done by Jim Henson of the Muppets. It came out in the early 70's, I believe. It's really cute, I hope y'all enjoy it! T.R. is a hoot!
Last night I added some electrolyte to the water and also gave them some cooked scrambled egg. They all went crazy for it, even the tiny chick. Each time I go out to check on the babies, I think I am going to find that one dead. For now, she seems to be doing better. I'll keep my fingers...
