Ok. I actually had 4 chicks in the starter cage, but 3 were roosters. So I found them new homes. My Molly had only been alone for a day when I moved her to the other run. So far, no blood shed. Just a lot of feather pulling...
I have 1 roo and 3 hens that are being a little mean to a new hen. I understand the pecking order and all, but I don't get why the roo is doing it. It's been 3 days, how much longer should I let it go? She is a June hatch that I kept (from the birds that are being mean), been in a cage attached...
Thank you for the info. I don't know how old she is, and I think she's an African goose...I'll have to get some sod to plant since she can't free graze. I'll check into getting vitamins for her.
This poor goose has a feather problem.
I thought she was molting at first, but it's been a while and they look worse.
She came to my Mom looking this way so I was wondering what I can do about it.
These pics aren't the best, but they are of her wings and back.
You can see some skin in her elbow...
My Mom had a pair of female geese come up in her yard(long story) and her companion disappeared.
She was mourning terribly(we thought she was dying), so I brought her home to friend my duck(who had companions, but thanks to neighbor dogs, is alone).
In one day, they are eating side by side. It...
Fredrick J. Frizzle, the 3rd, A.K.A. Fred...He's about 1 year in age and my only rooster.
He is a frizzle mix...his daddy was full frizzle.
I also have a Pekin drake named Donald.
Okay...the move was successful! I went to the store today and came home to her out of the box with the 3 new babies on the ground.
So, I gave her some more hay and moved the eggs under her. She is such a sweet bird!
She still has 12 eggs to go...whew! and another hen on another 11...
I'm...
I would have to do it in the dark, which is easy. She's a great girl, let's me mess with her and her babies. I hold them and cuddle them with her right there. I'll move her tonight and post in the morning. I think that will work. Thanks for the advice!
Thanks! I will do that. Will it hurt to move her? She is in a nest that is off the ground, and chick #2 has arrived. She has about 7 more to go, so I was going to put her in a smaller pen to be alone with her babies.
