I went and got 2500 lbs of river sand a couple weeks ago for $40, and I really like it. It makes it so easy to go in with a little kitty litter scooper and get up all the poop. Part of my run is just hardware cloth roof, and when the sand gets wet from rain, it dries out quickly also.

I use river sand, and I love it!! I go through once a day or every couple, and scoop up poop with a sifter, and you are done.
My run is 8 x16, and I roofed 12 feet of it, and left 4 foot just hardware cloth roof.
You can rake it around, and if it does get wet, it drains out and dries very fast...
I used the Polytuf panels from Lowe's. Corrugated Vinyl. My run is 8x16, and I cover 12' foot of it, and left 4' just covered with hardware cloth. So far it's been good!
I went to Home Depot and bought 2 of their extra large cardboard shipping boxes. I believe they were 24" x 24" each. I folded each box up and cut one side off each and taped them together
