Any suggestions on training a new pet dog to coexist with our flock?

Thank you for all of the great advice. We spent the afternoon doing just as many of you suggested and it went really well. Lot's of work to be done still, but at least I feel like we're on the right track and that progress is being made. Tomorrow's another day, and we'll keep up the hard work!

Any suggestions on training a new pet dog to coexist with our flock?

Love the last line there! : ) This gives me some great advice to start with..thank you! I'm starting to realize how very spoiled we were with our previous dog. We were so hesitant to get a new one, but there's something special about this girl and we took the plunge. Now it's time to get to...

Any suggestions on training a new pet dog to coexist with our flock?

I would greatly appreciate any suggestions you all might have on training a new dog to coexist peacefully with our established flock that has enjoyed free ranging privileges up to this point. We have 9 beloved hens and 1 rooster. They have a large coop enclosed inside a 20x15 foot secure deer...

Torn comb, bleeding a lot. How do I treat!??

Glad to report that our injured girl is recovering beautifully. Hasn't even missed a day of laying. The other hens are treating her normally & despite a now less than supermodel worthy comb she should be back to normal soon. Bonus: I am much wiser now on what to do in any future incidents of...

Torn comb, bleeding a lot. How do I treat!??

I guess they could have, but they're usually a pretty docile lot. It's just the 4 of them and they're so tame. My kids carry them around like babies . Of course I don't have any Blue Kote and was JUST at Tractor Supply today. Guess I'll be heading back tomorrow. In the mean time, I'll be...

Torn comb, bleeding a lot. How do I treat!??

Thank you so much for the advice! I went into the coop with a flashlight after it got dark as you suggested and put Neosporin on the injury. MUCH easier to care for her that way. It's stopped actively bleeding and the other hens are still treating her normally, but there's some icky congealed...

Torn comb, bleeding a lot. How do I treat!??

My daughter's beloved 6 month old Buff Orpington got injured somehow this evening. Her comb has about a 1/2 inch tear (at the back of the comb) and is bleeding quite a bit. She's behaving normally , but looks just awful. Any suggestions on how to treat this? I haven't done a thing yet. I was...

Backyard or barnyard...not a problem. As long as you love them for the great animals that they are I'm new to this forum also, but it seems really cool & I've gotten some great advice just reading like-situation threads. I love your assortment of breeds! We're going to get a few more chicks...

    Hi!...New from Cincinnati

Hi Everyone, Just wanted to say hello to what looks to be a great group of people. I've referred to the site for info for the past year or so & finally joined up....it's about time! We got our 1st chickens last year & promptly fell in love & are hooked. I was distraught recently when one of...

    Mysterious death :-(

How sad! I had a similar thing happen about a month ago & am still broken up about it. Ours was a year old Buff Cochin & she was fine and normal up to the morning I opened the coop & found her slumped dead under the perch area. My best guess is that her foot got caught in a mesh screen I had...
