There is an old book out there called Judging Head Points for better egg production. It tells you how to look at a hens head to find out the better producers. One of its biggest points is just this- flopping combs means better layers.

Well I hate to be the bearer of bad news but they are not very good for exhibition. They are way too narrow. Cornish are broad wide backed with legs spread apart. They don't have what is called "bone". Heavy thick legs and wings. The head is way too narrow. They need a broad thick skull.

Congratulations on your first show. You are lucky to have found a nice judge because cutting feathers is a disqualification and she should not even placed.
In general it takes about 6-8 weeks to grow the feathers back and it should be the same feather at the same place.

For the record you just enter your birds in the show, the only thing you have to specify is Largefowl, Bantam, Waterfowl or Turkey.
The show secretary will know which classes to put your breed into.
While Spitzhabens are not recognized I believe we are putting them into the Continental Class

Applying products to birds to make them shine or clean them will not get you DQ for faking, a few judges will mark you down if you get out of hand. If you use something to change the color they will DQ you.
