So we were going to buy 5 chicks to start with but the day before we were getting those five I stopped by TSC for feed and things and ended up buying 5 Production Reds to go with them so that made 10. Well I just got off the phone with a local guy and I am stopping by on the way home to get two...
The good thing is that they couldn't get in to run and for sure not the coop. I think the electric fence addition will hopefully stop them from even trying. If only these two were like my lab who could care less if a chicken was riding on his back all day.
I put my chicks in the coop for the first time last night. I have three dogs (two are litter mates who are curious about everything) and after I put the chicks in the coop one of my dogs came back to the backyard with me but the two litter mates stayed out at the coop. I knew they couldn't get...
Do you guys hang your feed and water from a rope or string or something where it can swing freely or more of a hard mount where it can't move? Does it matter either way? My chicks spent the first night in there coop last night and I just hung them from ropes and it didn't seem to be a problem...
My chicks poo was runny and it seemed to harden up when I started adding apple cider vinigar to their water. It may not have had anything to do with it but it seems like it helped.

Sorry I just noticed the question about the feathers on the legs. I honestly don't know if the have feathers on the legs or not but I will check when I get home tomorrow. These pics are a few days old and they are much bigger and more feathered than this now. I have been amazed at how fast they...
Thanks for the the answers. They all have a little white on them but the one pictured has a lot more than the rest. I think they are mixed but does anyone know possibly what mixes would look like this?
I know that the redish brown ones are production reds but I don't know what the black ones are. I bought the reds at TSC and my wife got the blacks from the local 4H. Does anyone have any idea what breed the black ones are?
Thanks for the welcome. dawg53 thanks for the advice. I will probably put a floor in it, I just wanted to make sure I wasn't doing extra work for nothing.
My wife and I just bought 10 chicks a week ago tomorrow. We were both raised with cattle and horses but this will be our first time dealing with chickens. We mainly bought them for our daughter and for egg production. I know 5 of them are production reds that I bought at TSC. The other 5 my wife...
