    Could it be HENOPAUSE?

Thanks for the suggestions. After careful searching in all parts of the open orchard yard, no hidden nests and no yard eggs were discovered. So, something else is going on. it's like they've been unduly influenced by the SEIU or something. NO production (3 eggs a day from 12 girls is all we...

    Could it be HENOPAUSE?

Ok, here's the scoop - 4 Araucana hens in their third summer, 8 in their suspected second summer (hatched spring 08). They roam about a nice sized yard freely, have a lovely and secure indoor coop for safety. Eat well - pellet crumble, scratch and daily meals of organic brow rice, cottage...

Anyone ever hear of BLUE YOLKS? Urban legend, or real occurrence?

OK - this is a lame-o question, I am sure. I had a customer in the shop last week who insisted that a neighbor of hers had at one time hens that laid eggs with blue yolks. Not shells, but yolks. I've googled around and am not finding anything helpful or solid...so I thought I'd check in with...

It's a mystery to me - BEAUTIFUL egg one day, then......

Thank you - Yeah, the whole rooster debacle. I read in several places that roos weren't needed, but my hubby's father INSISTS they are, but then we google or wiki it, and nope, no roos necessary. Then we'll chat with a rancher, and he'll insist that we're doomed to be eggless since we are also...

It's a mystery to me - BEAUTIFUL egg one day, then......

No, not at all - sort of mid 70s during the day, sometimes a bit higher, cooler nights in the high 30s and low 40s. Oh - no roosters around. Could that have an effect on their, uh, willingness to lay? thank you for your reply, btw!

It's a mystery to me - BEAUTIFUL egg one day, then......

nothing for a day or two, followed by two paper thin shelled eggs, both broken. We've got 3 and a half hens (the half has a twisted beak and is abotu half the size of her sisters, despite twice daily feedings of rice, avocado, bread, cottage cheese, tofu, salad, cooked carrots, bulgur wheat...

    Another cross beak question, please

I've got some Araucanas, and one developed a cross beak at a few weeks of age. SHe's now about 4 months old or so, a voracious eater compared to her siblings, and about 1/2 their size or so. She's also very sweet and tame, and seems healthy otherwise. I've been making sure their feed dish is...
