    Rebuilding My Flock

Saturday Feb 19, 2011 2:30 p.m. Just set 7 eggs in my Mini Advance. 70% of my flock was wiped out yesterday by a stray dog. Gone but not forgotten : barred rock roo, barred rock hen, my crazy duck pen laying BSL, & RSLs. I am left with a very tiny flock- a non laying rehomed silkie cross, 1...

First of all, I came to be a chicken keeper because of the educational system! 15 years ago, my daughters grade two teacher hatched eggs in the classroom. After a successful hatch and period of brooding, she needed homes for the combo ducklings/chicks. Yes they came to my property as I had a...

    My First Hatch

Received a Brinsea Mini Advance just before Christmas. I really bought it to hatch my Khaki Campbell duck eggs, but heck, I needed to test it out, right? Good morning. Woke to a khaki campbell duck out and one almost out! I set 8 eggs in my mini advance, hand turned and we are on day 27. I also set the eggs upright this time, but two are already knocked down by the two that are now out and drying nicely. Will post to Facebook shortly. Here's...

    Dry versus Humid incubaction?

I don't add water to the incubator for a very simple reason- my house humidity is already 50-60%. I weigh my eggs daily and calculate loss. I only add water at lockdown. Works for me!
