Mine started early when they were with the cockerll...but it was between 5 and 6 months of age. I have 3 new hens that have been introduced and they are not laying yet they are 5 months old now and are not laying....so each chicken is different.
I have been through this before....My male Muscovy fought off a raccoon. His backside was so tore up I thought he would die...I even went as far as telling my hubby to "Let him Rest in Peace" but thanks to my hubby he would not do this..."Groucho" took a long time to heal and he looked horrible...
I am checking on her and I am hearing chirps from the eggs under the hen ...I will wait and see what happens at this point... but as soon as they are dry I am movin them to a safer area.....the roo has been know to attack other chicks when he was younger but he is a great protecter of his three...
Ok the day is here.....Both the incubator and the hen is set for today and tomorrow hatching...Good new the Incbator has life...the first egg hatched today...chick is drying and chirping...ok on to my Question...when I checked the hen outside in the house she has one egg that is pipping and...
We are feeding them Dumor Poultry crumble-Grower level and we toss in some scratch grains as well as the kids feed them the grubs from the garden every once in a while.

We got 15 chicks and then added a 3 or 4 month old hen and rooster. Things were good for a time being then every few days we would have a one die. We thought at first it was because of the rooster and so we blocked half of the pen off so the little chicks...

I have 12 RIR Chicks....about 3 weeks old and they seems to be changing to look differnt.
5 of them are developing major tail feathers....
7 of them have no tail feathers and a rounded butt instead.
