This also happened to me last hatch. I was disappointed at day 19 with hate rate. Went investigating and found 8 pipped eggs and helped them along. All but 2 did well. We had a heat wave here in KY also, and I keep my humidity pretty consistent. Consistently inconsistent if that makes sense ;)
I am in my 2nd year of quail. I find myself questioning whether to harvest the first generation or the 2nd.
I made two breeder pens last fall. A rare breed mix and Jumbo browns. They are a year+ old.
Should I harvest them? I worry that they will become less productive and I will miss my...
Wanted to add my contribution! After browsing this thread I finally settled on a design.
I am quite pleased with the feeders I created. Almost no waste! 3 inch pcv pipe shoved into an enclosed container (this one was dishwasher tabs) with 2 inch holes drilled for their heads. I found tupperware...
Pictures will not upload, I am sorry. The coon attacked her head. She has swelling on both sides, no obvious open areas, but it's not real clean. Nasty looking
So... I've read multiple threads about how to tube feed chickens. I have the supplies... but- when to start it? This is day two after the coon massacre. It killed 3/5 chick's and one of the mamas. This is the other mama. Pretty positive she is blind in the one eye she has left. I have given her...
I like the pellets best. I put shavings down then pellets on top for cost reasons. They dont peck and scratch at the pellets as bad and less junk in the water and feed.
My chicks are scratching like crazy. Mostly under the water trough. I raised it so they'd get less shavings in it... but should I give them something to look for? Treats? They're only a week/two old. I'm afraid they're eating the pine shavings, will this hurt?
This thread makes me feel better. The lamp is as close as I want it to be and thermometer says 79 degrees. They are super happy, don't sleep directly under the lamp and are chirping and running around like theyre fine. Ambient temp is 70 degrees in an office in the garage.
