I’ve had a rough couple of years but my chickens were a little speck of joy in my life. Out of my original 5, one died the first year from a predator attack, one died last year unexpectedly, and while I was away 3 weeks ago, the person watching my flock decided to let them free range. Something...
What a cute fairy egg! I had one last year that was a deep brown. At first I thought it was a nut. Did you crack this open? Mine had a tiny yolk in it too.
This is my 20 month EE who has just gone thru a hard molt. She had a few white spots before the molt but it has gotten worse. She is eating fine and behaving normally, although I haven't had any eggs since she molted.
My 2 BOs were different from each. One was the head hen (she was killed last spring) and the other was the bottom of the pecking order. Both were friendlier than the other hens.
Yes! I was shocked at how still the air was at the back of the coop. I am so happy I decided on a Woods Coop. It has made my life and my so much easier and my hens happier and healthier I think.
She and my EEs, with the pea combs, did not have frostbite. My 2 BOs lost the very tips of their combs. Because I have a Woods, windchill didn't matter. It was still at the back of the coop. I think the coldest we saw was -8 without windchill.
My flock is being fed layer feed with scrambled eggs and meal worm treats in the evening while they molt. None of the other hens have damaged combs. I have an Open Air Woods Coop. Great ventilation. Temps were down into the teens for a few nights. She did fine earlier this year with temps...
☹ this was my head hen but she's been huddled in a corner because it's been so cold and she didn't have many feathers. It wouldn't surprise me that someone has decided to peck at her. The frostbite is also possible because she was having a hard time staying warm. None of the other hens roost...
My SLW has been going through a pretty hard molt. I haven't been able to get close to her for days. Shes grown back most of her feathers however, and last night I was ably to creep up on her while she was roosting. I found her comb had black spots on it. Does anyone have any suggestions about...
My BO and my SLW are going through a hard molt right now. Temps have been in the lows 10s at night and below freezing during the day. Both lost the majority of their feathers today and are half their normal puffed up size. Neither can get up to the roost any more and are huddled on the floor of...
