    MITES!

Hi folks, I am struggling as well with mites/lice, and have been all summer. I am going out AGAIN tonite to dust my flock of 9 with permethrin. I started with DE, then sevin, and have done permethrin now for about the 6th or 7th time (every week or 10 days). I also spray the coop area with...

    Plymouth Rock Rooster

My newest flock is about 9 weeks old and I am hearing some noises I am not comfortable with, perhaps a young guy in the mix who is testing out his voice. If that is indeed the case, I will need to find him a new home, and as soon as possible before neighbors complain. If you think you may be...

    Don't skimp on the wire!

I haven't posted for a while, but tragedy hit my flock yesterday. I came home and found 6 of my 15 girls either dead or missing. Although I had heeded advice about burying the fencing 8-12" below the surface, (I used 2x4" galv. plastic coated mesh for this, over top of the 1" galv. mesh), I did...

    What can't they eat???!?!?!?

Mine ladies also eat pretty much anything. However, they LOVE watermelon rinds, kale and collard greens. I was selective in not feeding them decaying produce, but found they run to the compost heap (right near their pen) and chow down. Go figure.
