Hi, I was wondering why my leghorns aren't so friendly and run from me? I saw somewhere that they were gentle birds, I was misinformed. Although I still love them, they are very skid dish, My Plymouth rocks, are great. cant wait for them to lay me some eggs.

I *think* they can be a bit more flightly than other breeds. (Others can feel free to correct me.)

Welcome to the site.

I agree, leghorns are known to be skiddish but they will still come to you for treats and such. One of mine is just a doll, acts like an orpington rather than a leghorn. But the other two are true to there breed.

Welcome to BYC. I've had Leghorns. They are skittish and flighty. They'll easily fly over a 5' chain link fence and I've had to trim their feathers back. You cant beat their egg production though!

Welcome to BYC!

Yes, they can be skittish. But you can tame them down a bit with treats. Go sit with them in the run with goodies. Sit on the ground or floor with them. Sit for 20 mins a day. Feed them some treats, talk quietly to them. Don't try to pick them up much until they settle down. Eventually if you win over their trust the may settle down a bit. But Leghorns can be flighty birds.

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! Leghorns do tend to be more reactive than other breeds especially when young, but they will tame down and can be quite friendly .

If they see your other breeds of chickens getting treats they may learn it doesn't pay to skidaddle away . Have you tried giving the flock meal worms (

) birds really like them, I don't even want to see them. Ick.
