    Aspiration...

I have, thanks. There's nothing more to it? Just get the Safeguard and administer 0.23ml/pound once per day for five days? What about the other chickens? Should I treat them too, or leave them alone since they're doing fine?

    Aspiration...

How do you deworm with Safeguard? My hen has been having trouble with her crop not fully emptying for two weeks now. I gave her dulcolax, which helped initially, but the problem returned. After a full week of miconozole 2x/day, she still has at least a partially full crop in the mornings.

    Likely Crop/Digestive Problem

Update: I never got her to take oil. After trying the cold coconut oil, I tried olive oil via a dropper on Sunday, but couldn't get it into her beak. (I was able to give her electrolyte water via a dropper several times.) Yesterday (Tuesday), her crop was the same: not hard, not squishy, but...

    Likely Crop/Digestive Problem

Thanks. I agree the protein is a little low. Their evening treat is grubs. They also have free range to forage, although this time of year I'm not sure how much they find in the way of bugs.

    Likely Crop/Digestive Problem

Now that she's by herself in the garage, I can see she has pooped only once since she has been in there (a couple hours). It was mostly liquid with a layer of the white cap in the center.

    Likely Crop/Digestive Problem

Thank you for the questions to help figure this out. No injuries. I just felt between her legs and didn't feel anything that seemed like swelling. Is a blockage different than an impacted crop? The articles I linked in the original post said the crop will be hard if it's impacted. Hers is...

    Likely Crop/Digestive Problem

Whoops. I just checked on her, and she's on the perch having gotten onto it herself. Her breathing seems labored. I can see her chest moving significantly (but it's in her crop area that I really see it, so that could be just from having a full crop). I also see her throat moving as she...

    Likely Crop/Digestive Problem

I give them commercial, whole grain feed. It's a mixture of wheat, soy, corn, sunflower seeds... She's mostly standing, no sitting. I have a low perch in the crate in the garage. She didn't climb onto it herself, so after several minutes I lifted her onto it. She immediately hopped off.

    Likely Crop/Digestive Problem

My 3-year-old Australorp woke up sick today. She didn't come out of the coop this morning with the others. I lifted her out, but she didn't join the others to eat breakfast. Through yesterday, she was eating feed normally. She did not participate with the others the last two days, however...

    First Chicken Anniversary

    (1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? I'm still fairly new to having chickens. I got my chickens exactly one year ago today! I took over someone else's flock; at the time they were about one year old, so now they're about two. I'm not sure of their hatch dates. (2)...

Ventilation ideas? There is only one window by the door & above nesting boxes…

Do you have Dremel? I've had success cutting through a fairly large bolt using a Dremel. I'm sorry, but I can't remember what attachment I used. It will be easy to figure out looking through the array of attachments at the hardware store, though.

Choice of light weight mobile coop siding material?

Did you try it? I saw a listing for free drop ceiling tiles and had the same idea to use them as insulation in a new coop. Haven't found much on BYC about anyone else's experience. The only other post I found was here mentioning the coop uses the tiles as insulation saying they're fine but...

What did you do with your flock today?

I could see the injury, but I don't have a rooster, so I wasn't sure if that's normal when there's a rooster in the mix. I hope she takes a break from laying to recover, too! They are tough creatures, indeed!

What did you do with your flock today?

Will she lay in there? Mine starting laying again a few weeks ago. A big reason I put them back in their run for the daytime was to be able to lay if they needed to. I see Goldie has a nest box in her crate, which makes a difference, I imagine. I don't have anything like that for mine. (No...
