Will it kill her? I'm pretty sure I got a bit of oil in the wrong spot while administering some to help out with an impacted crop. She is panting a bit, but seems to be getting better with the passing moments.

Welcome to BYC! Aspiration of oil is more dangerous that aspiration of water. This is why I am so opposed to syringe feeding anything other than small amounts of medications. Search lipid or lipoid pneumonia.

I really wish people would stop posting about give oil this way.

I didn't know that chickens have 3 holes in their mouth. One on the top that goes to the sinuses and such, one behind the tong,SP, that goes to the respiratory system and the other further back to the crop and stomach. I found out about it doing research on tube feeding.
I wonder if you could some how suction it out?

Can't suction it out once it goes down the trachea. Best just to put the bird down and let it try to cough up the fluid or food.

Thank you for this incredible information! I have just been giving her tiny bits of remedy at a time and letting her get the stuff down by swallowing. She has an impacted crop and I'm hesitant to fuss over it too much. I lost a hen to it last Summer which was heartbreaking to watch. She's been drinking the Epsom salt water I gave her plus a bit of non stimulating dulcolax. I've also been gently massaging her crop. I can feel the mass softening. Hopefully it clears by morning. Please send some healing light for my Rosie.

I have been able to treat all impacted crops by tubing fluids to them. Let me know if you want to learn how to tube and I'll teach you.

Has she been de-wormed with Safeguard at 0.23ml per pound for 5 days? If not, that's something you should think about doing since capillary worms can cause crops not to empty.

Hi
I am so desperate as I am afraid food get in Chica' trachea while tube feeding. She freaked out and I had to remove the tube while half way done with the 12 ml feed and medications and she tilted her head back gulping for air. I saw food in her mouth so a put a piece of towel inside to try to get the food out. The tube was covered with food when I pulled it out. It's been two hours and she is still alive. But makes noise while breathing not a rattling noise but just a "dung" at each breathe Poor thing has a respiratory infection and swollen face and has difficulties breathing. She's been sick for a week under antibiotic, anti inflammatory and pain killer. Read the full thread under "chased by a dog". I am so desperate . Does she have any chance to recover even with that huge mistake? I never put her upside down to tube feed her. But she hates it now. Please help! Thank you... We were supposed to wait until Tuesday before deciding to put her down. Now if I messed up and she has no chance then should I have her put down tomorrow?

Someone posted once that their rooster died from them carrying him upside down. Apparently his crop was full of water.

I also cringe when I read about people vomiting their birds..

I think I did the same as u write I was giving vitamin E capsule to my rooster and I think one drop goes wrong and he starting opening his beak afterwards he sneeze alot and then back Normal any other easy way to give birds medicine

How do you deworm with Safeguard? My hen has been having trouble with her crop not fully emptying for two weeks now. I gave her dulcolax, which helped initially, but the problem returned. After a full week of miconozole 2x/day, she still has at least a partially full crop in the mornings.
