I've had a busy morning this morning. Trying to make friends with the birds from my mom, then chick-holding. There are 12- 3 week old guineas who want absolutely nothing to do with me, (9) 1- week-old Barred Rocks that aren't very sure of me, a 4-week old Black Giant rooster(a bully!), a 4-week...
I'm sorry I've been so absent as of late! With the new chickens from my mom, plus all the brooder babies and the ones hatching in the incubators, I've been kept BUSY! It's hard to settle in 32 new chickens on short notice! We had a surprise hatchling on Monday- I bought Copper Marans eggs...
I may totally regret telling her I could take them all in the end, but I couldn't say no! She loves those chickens like they are my brothers and sisters, and who can say no to siblings? I thought chicken math was something you had to actively participate in, but I was proven wrong!
Hey, guys! As of today, I have 12 guineas, 10 Barred Rocks, and 6 buff silkies all in brooders. My mom called this morning and said her landlord gave her 30 days to get rid of all her chickens, so she brought over a BUNCH of chicks, SLWs, RIRs, and silkies. Sunday we have to pick up the rest...
I got these this morning, 10 of them, and the boys at the feed store had no idea. I'm kind of new to chick ID-ing, but I'm thinking maybe Barred Rocks?
Thanks! I guess that's a real possibility, seeing as I thought I saw extra toes yesterday but brushed it off as their feathers being funky on their feet. I will have to take a closer look at that now. I've been giving them time and space to acclimate since they are so flighty and frightened...
Quick question- I don't know if anyone saw my post from yesterday, so i thought I would ask again. Hope that is alright! I recently got some frizzle Cochin bantams from the local auction, and after looking closely, they have blue earlobes. Is that normal for a frizzle Cochin? My last ones did...
I have a single Blue Copper Marans hen, and I have fallen in love with her(and her eggs). I had no idea the color of eggs she would lay when my husband brought her home, so I was shocked to find such a dark egg in the coop!
She came with a roo, but he is NOT a Marans, he's a Blue laced Red...
