YO GEORGIANS! :)

The feed store in Fairburn has chicks...Cuckoo Maran pullets, straight run Yokahamas, RIR, and Barred Rocks. They also have a bunch of ducks. Not sure what kind they were and the guy who knows what's going on was busy so I didn't get to ask. They were black with yellow markings. Not sure if that helps lol...I know nothing about ducks.

Mallards, probably.

More likely the are Rouens. Look the same as a mallard for the most part but are bigger and not prone to flight. True mallards require toe removal or other permanent marking to differentiate them from their wild cousins by law.

Unfortunately, mallards are sold just as much as rouens here in Georgia - ESPECIALLY by feed stores. I bought some once thinking they were rouens, but they took off in serious flight - which Rouens can't do. As a matter of fact, I always had to get one from the neighbor's yard, because she constantly flew over the 6-foot fence separating the two properties.

I'm sorry I've been so absent as of late! With the new chickens from my mom, plus all the brooder babies and the ones hatching in the incubators, I've been kept BUSY! It's hard to settle in 32 new chickens on short notice! We had a surprise hatchling on Monday- I bought Copper Marans eggs locally on April 4 and stuck them straight in the incubator. One decided he was done and hatched in the turner! He seems to be doing just fine, though. I assume there was some kind of mix up with that particular egg. I had a Blue Cochin hatch out today, and the eggs with him/her are wiggling but I can't really see any pips yet. They are late- today is day 24 for them. Then the Marans have to go on lockdown today, and I'm hoping we see babies by Friday night!

So what is everyone else hatching/got in brooders?

im in pembrooke georgia!
Welcome.
