YO GEORGIANS! :)

I've had a busy morning this morning. Trying to make friends with the birds from my mom, then chick-holding. There are 12- 3 week old guineas who want absolutely nothing to do with me, (9) 1- week-old Barred Rocks that aren't very sure of me, a 4-week old Black Giant rooster(a bully!), a 4-week old splash Cochin hen, and then there's the silkies. 6 adorable buff balls of fluff- only, one is a mean little thing! I assume he is a roo- the attitude makes me think that- and he stands up tall and pecks me and will not give in. Spunky little thing! We also have two bator babies- an early Maran rooster and a blue Cochin that I think is a roo, and they are the sweetest little things! Is there any trick making friends with guineas and angry week-old silkies? :idunno

No, I use still air. So my temp will be higher. ? At least from all I've been told, anyway.

102 should have been good for the top of the eggs. That's where I put my thermometer. But I stopped using the one that came with the incubators altogether. They were always VERY different from each other. Meanwhile, a 97-cent thermometer I got from Wal-mart seems to be pretty good.

Okay, went to TSC and got all I needed there, plus some. I had to replace a duckling for my nephew and wanted something different. They got an assortment in about 20 minutes after we arrived. And as usual with TSC, you can't buy just one. So my sister decided to FINALLY include my oldest nephew, and we got three ducks. They didn't know the breeds, but I think we got a blue swedish, a black swedish, and a mallard. I believe they also had a rouen, because one was much bigger than the one we got (a mallard), but they only had one of each.

But to make things more interesting, the two swedish ducks both have crests. The mallard is just a mallard. But it will be interesting to see what those crested swedish ducks look like when they get older.

Then I went to Lowe's to get materials to build a new pen. Turns out they did not have the 3-way pipe joints for it, NOR the 5-foot fencing, even though the website said it was "in stock" at that store. So I just got the PVC pipes, and the zip-ties, and came home.

While at TSC though I got plenty of D.E. to take care of the mite issue before I move more babies outside, plus some sphagnum moss to start a veggie garden (in part, for the ducks and geese to freely raid later on).

Came home to a beheaded sumatra hen (something tried to pull her through the chain link fencing) and a dead silkie baby (he tried to swim). But three babies hatching in the incubator and everything is about to be moved around anyway! BUSY couple of weeks coming up!

Oh, one more thing I forgot to mention.

TSC in McDonough said this will be their LAST shipment of chicks and ducks for this season. So once these little crested Swedish ducks are gone, the leghorn pullets, and the little bantams they got in today (nothing special) that's it until 2015.

Hi all from Newnan! My 5 new babies arrived healthy and peeping from My Pet Chicken. I have a question maybe someone can answer: I ordered 3 Easter Eggers , one Olive Egger and one Blue Copper Maran. Five of them look as expected but one is all yellow - maybe a slightly diff colored patch on top of her head. She also looks a little bigger than the others. Can EE or OE chicks be all yellow? We've had them for years and chicks have always had some different coloration.

I think you might have gotten a wrong chick. I ordered 3 EE from MPC one year, one died but the other 2 ended up being light brown leghorns. You may have just had a wrong chick put in the box.

looks like it has a beard, I've had EEs that color before, it will likely end of buff/white.
Did they send you any extra?

Very possible. I've crossed EE with leghorn, and the result is almost completely white (one or two black marks here and there) and light green eggs. Unfortunately, she was killed by a predator about two weeks ago, right as she started to lay VERY well. But she did indeed lay green eggs.
