Wow I am so happy you have baby peeps! I cant wait to see the pics!!
If I am figuring right, Ruthie and Gracie should have the first hatchlings this weekend!
I hope I have as much luck as you do!!
I am sorry but you havent gotten the answers you needed. I was hoping you did because I am in the same boat.
I have 2 hens, Gracie and Ruthie. Ruthie started sitting about 2.5 weeks ago. They are both Cochins.
I too marked the eggs because other RIR hens were getting in and laying their eggs...
OK dont laugh!
How soon after breeding does the fertile egg get laid? Is it the next day?
Also I have 6-2 yo RIR that are laying and I just got a Cochin Roo and 2 hens that are about 6 months old.
OK this sounds really dumb but I think the roo is too short for the RIR.. he looks like he is...
OK can someone tell me what did this?,,,
We woke up at 1:00 am to the RIR hens raising a ruckus. We ran out there and found a coon in the coop.
We removed him and checked all the chickens for wounds. All were well and just shook up a little..
So we went back to bed. At 7:00 am my husbang goes...
Do you leave them out or in the Fridge?
Can anyone tell me IF you do leave fresh eggs out how long they will last?
Do you wash them or not..? Just curious to see what everybody else does..
Thanks
We are in Douglas County. SE of Springfield.
We moved here Sept of 07 and love it!
We have 12 RIR hens and one RIR Roo!
We get a dozen eggs almost everyday!
Thanks for the info... I didnt think they would start soon.. But I was hoping this spring some would sit.
How are silkies for eggs if I was to get some in the spring? Or do most people get them for breeders?
How do you get hens to sit? I have 14 RIR hens and I am getting 12 to 14 eggs a day but I would like to get some hens to start sitting....
Is it an age thing? Or with Winter coming on will I have to wait for spring?
4 Hens are 9 months old and 9 are 6 months old...
Thanks in advance!
Thanks for all the good info. I am in Southern MO and this is my first year with the peeps! I have some that are 9 months old and some that are about 34 weeks.
Does the egg production slack off in winter?
They are just now starting to really lay...
I was wonder what folks do in the winter for their chicks?
Do you still let them free range?
Put down more hay or wood chips?
How warm is too warm at night?
What is the lowest temps that chickens can still be comfortable in?
Thanks for your info!
I was wondering if everyone keeps a light on for their chicks?
I have 4 - 9 month old RIR's that have been laying for about 3 weeks and 24 - 5 month old chicks and right now I just have a 60 watt bulb for night time.
Do you leave the lights on all night? Forever?
What about heat lamps in the...
