I started incubating 10 eggs on March 26th. The lady I got them from said they had been laid the Wednesday and Thursday before. I counted forward 21 days from when she said they were laid to get a hatch date. I took them out of the turner this past Monday afternoon. They still haven't hatched...
TexasChickMom- I am in Big Sandy just north of Tyler. I usually candle the eggs just for my benefit, but we do not have to candle them for the kids. They just enjoy seeing them as eggs and then showing up to school one day and there are baby chicks in the incubator! Last year we got eggs from...
Hello everyone! I am looking for someone in the East Texas area that might be willing to donate some fertilized eggs for a school project. I teach 1st grade and we hatch the eggs out at school to teach the life cycle of an egg. After hatching the eggs, they will be brought to my hosue to live...
We had one that go a really pale comb at one point. We started putting an antibiotic in their water. I think it was called Tetramycin (I'm sure that is not spelled right). We got it from our local farm supply store. That helped our hen get better. Of course the others drank the water as well...
I haven't candled and probably won't. Mama gets all upset when you disturb her. Maybe this weekend we will be able to catch her off of the nest one morning and be able to at least see if any of them smell!!
Maybe. Or we got the eggs switched and they are a cross between a BO roo and BA hen. There is a good chance that happened! Either way the brown chicks look like they will be beautiful. They are solid brown.
We are hoping for one roo. We like to have fertilized eggs for when we need to increase our flock. We just can't have more than one with the amount of hens that we have. Plus the chickens are housed on my in-laws land so we do not want to over-crowd our free housing!
