Thanks for the information on Newcastle disease. I will read up on it now! I did isolate her today. She has had this for a few days now.
Congrats on the 69th post!
Will try to follow up later and let all know what becomes of her and us...
Thanks again.
Anyone know what could cause this buff to have a twisted neck? She is one of 60 hens and the only one having this issue. I don't see anything on the surface that could cause it...maybe I need to look in her ears>>?
She has access to plenty of fresh water like the others...otherwise seems...
Last year my hens stopped laying, all 150, from Oct through April. I thought it was because of several stress factors, molt, lice, and cold....We are in SE North Carolina and it isn't really cold here usually.
But I have several ppl tell me that hens stop laying if they are allowed to walk on...

Putting my 2 cents here in SE NC. We have been selling our eggs for $4.25 this year at the local Farmer's Market. Up from $4 last year, which we bought almost all the feed from farm stores in 50# bags...Made No Profit! I give a quarter off if you return your carton. That is an expense! This...
I have a broody hen that has been in that state for four days so we immediately put some girls with the boys and now have 16 fertilized eggs under Miss Broody. 1. How many is too many and 2. Should I move her and the eggs out of the laying boxes in the henhouse where another 80 hens deposit...
Well, so slow I am. Thanks for the advice but slack me did nothing and she was fine in a day or two. Never would have known there was a problem.
Thanks RedRoosterFarm!
Well, here I am finally to report that the flock has overcome and they look marvelous! The TRUE free ranging is doing the trick. They graze all day and are plump, happy with red combs , but...still not laying...due to the cold I suspect.
I had to sell half of them recently to feed the other...
Okay,
I looked for others posts like mine before I posted, I guess I don't know how to search for it well....so here I am with pictures if any has a guess as to why my leghorn girl has such angry looking wattles.....She is almost two years old and never had any problems. I have not seen this...
Hi My advisors! Have been busy with the holidays and all...Haven't posted in a while. >>>>>Or responded to the last two counsels. *sorry
I have sold a lump or two of produce to some locals....put some in freezer for the family and now let the hens have their share mostly. Kinda hate they got...
Thanks for the good wishes kuntrygirl and farmerboy16...
And I did consider the "egg eaters and am not seeing evidence of that. Plus that would be A LOT of eggs to eat!
Thanks for thinking it through with me though;)
Just waiting,
Jodi
HI ya'll,
It's been a while since I checked in. It doesn't appear that the lice on my flock is a problem anymore. Ivermec and garlic in the water! Still desperate without the girls laying. 175 + and only getting 8-10 eggs a day!!! Money is going for the feed. So I planted a huge fall...
Thanks for the good wishes. And I did try the Diatomaceous earth a couple of times and it helped knock the lice down tremendously but not completely. So I'm exploring other options to see what else would be effective.
Will check in soon;)
