I put mine in a paper nacho bowl. The kind you get at Smart and Final. You get tons for cheap. Also, the messy egg shell don't go all over the incubator, just pick up and throw away.
Cage free doesn't always mean fertile. I bought eggs of the cage free and fertilized eggs. We hatched 4 of 12 the fertile white eggs. Those eggs were kept 40 degrees and 10 days old.
It sure sound like chikky poo. I had to pick the poo off my last baby with fingers and lots of warm water. It was so matted i was worried about it backing up into the vent. Good luck!
