    Minnesota!

We live on a small hobby farm. I free ranged my flock a few years ago and lost almost all my birds over the course of a few days so my husband built me a huge outdoor pen that's attached to the coop. They are cooped after dark but have outside access during the day. Like you said, the chickens...

    Adding new birds?

I recently lost almost all of my birds except 2 hens and a rooster. After beefing up security I am adding 5 ISA reds, 5 Americana's and 6 Silver laced wyandottes. They are not all coming from the same home. I'm wondering if I will have any issues putting them all together right away? I thought...

    Minnesota!

I live in Cannon Falls Mn. Have 2 chickens and a rooster right now. Adding 5 ISA reds, 5 Americana's, and 6 Silver Laced Wyandottes this week. We lost most of our flock to a feral dog that broke down the door to the coop while we were at work and killed most of my birds.

Fox is killing My chickens!!! What the Heck do I do!!!!!!

So do you let your chickens free range at all then? We have been locking them up every night. I bought a baby monitor yesterday and put that in their coop as well. I'll have to look into the electric fence. At least then they can be outside and still be safe.

This year so far something has eaten 15 of my new laying hens, 10 bantams and my 4 new baby mallard ducks. We have resorted to locking them in at night and now the critter has taken 2 hens...

    New chicken owner

Thanks for the advice. I may have to come up with some other way to keep my plants healthy. My chickens(and the 2 Ducks we have) LOVE to dig up the plants so I figured a little fertilizer and bug stuff would help them out. I can't bring myself to pen up the chicks.. they love to go exploring and...
