    Overcrowded incubator

Hi All, I had wonderful viability in the 18 eggs I set. 17 of them are going into lockdown. I've never hatched out more than 14 in this incubator. It is wall to wall eggs in there. No space between eggs. Is this a concern? I could bust out my old, much larger, incubator but I questioned how well...

Hi, I'm looking for a black copper rooster, French type. I'm getting too many gorgeous dark eggs from my second coop to leave the olive egger roo in there. I have too many hens for just one boy. If anyone is looking to re home their roo please keep me on mind. I would also take a blue or blue...

    Anyone here sell at middlesex?

Hi, I need to cull some year old roosters. I've used craigslist before, but seriously hate some of the shady people showing up at my house. I worry about the security of all my animals. Years ago I took some birds to auction but it didn't even pay for the gas to get there. I've heard things have...

    Winter watered?

Hi All, I have always used a nipple watered in the warm months but switch to fortex bowls in the winter so I can dump and smash the ice out. They are always filthy and a pain to clean. This year, due to surgery I had, my husband had to take over animal care. In an effort to make it easier for...

Late August a good time to start?

Hi All, I'm planning on growing out 25 meat birds, CORNISH X ROCKs. Spring was crazy, and summer will be even busier. I've heard that late summer/fall is a good time to grow them out. I was thinking of starting in late August. Does that make sense to those of you who have done this before...

    Connecticut!

Hi, I haven't read all the posts but thought I'd add my 2 cents. 1- I've been told it is always open season on coyote in CT. (by animal control) 2. Farm Bureau is working on regs for keeping poultry, you might try contacting them. 3. It is almost impossible to 100% preditor proof a coop, we've...

Best Breed of Chicken for my Daughter to show at fair??

Did she train the bird to walk at home? Easy to do with scratch. Do it at home enough, have some in their pocket for the show, then after the bird has walked give the bird a little scratch while the judge is busy with the next child.

Best Breed of Chicken for my Daughter to show at fair??

I'm sure I'm only repeating what has been said in the previous pages but here it goes. My kids all showed poultry (this is why I have birds now- I was hooked). So what breeds to have. First breed- the one that she wants/loves! Go to a show and let her pick it out. I would avoid any that require...
