NewChick, how many chickens lived in that house? How big is it? I have a coop made all of PVC pipe, corrugated plastic and hardware cloth, but it has some serious flaws in the design. We live right in town so I"m not worried about Coyotes, but bears have been seen on our street, we've had skunks, and raccoons are of course very likely. So I'm contemplating how to make a sturdier setup.

the coop that got hit by the Coyote was not the full time real coop. It was the tractor that I use when I have a broody or a sick chicken. The house is 2x3 feet and the run is 4x10. At the time it was one bantam hen and her 2 babies. I was in the process of integrating them into the big girl coop, but since they were still on chick starter feed I was keeping them separate most of the time still.

Today we spent re-enforcing the big run with a new product we got from Specialty Agricultural Products (nodeer.com). It's a heavy hex wire that is plastic coated. Very tough, and I think it will do the trick.

You have to assume that the predator will find the weak link in your set up and exploit it. If you think you have a design flaw, that's great that you know what to fix. It's the flaw you don't notice that's the problem.

CT people come to Central Pizza located in North Branford for great Greek Pizza. Alot of Polish and Russians love our Greek pizza. We also make Greek salads, Gyros, and the best grinders/sandwich.

Please, does anyone have any Orpington or Cochin eggs here in CT? My Agatha is so broody, I really need to help her out. Even just 2 or 3?

Hi, I haven't read all the posts but thought I'd add my 2 cents.
1- I've been told it is always open season on coyote in CT. (by animal control)
2. Farm Bureau is working on regs for keeping poultry, you might try contacting them.
3. It is almost impossible to 100% preditor proof a coop, we've had racoon pull birds out through the chicken wire (not pretty). very frustrating when they huddle by the fencing.
