That looks like a nasty one! I would agree with twocrows. Keep the hurt one separate and keep an eye on the others. Could anything get them in your coop? I had a cat attack mine once and then another quail saw the blood and kept pecking it
I tried cots with a ramp in a coop with an attached run... I dont think quail are bright enough to walk up a ramp!! I had a quad of a&ms and in about 4 months I dont think they went up the more than a few times! Just personal experience, maybe yours have more brain power.
and congrats on...
I agree, buttons make bad broodies. Ive always had to incubate mine. I have a hovabator too and have a good hatch rate. I tried leaving some eggs for my button hens and had no luck so it was just a waste of eggs! Id say put them in the bator and see how it goes.
Great tip for egg turning!!! I have 58 eggs in my hovabator at the minute andit seems like hours to turn them! With out the danger of being dense, when you say carton, is that like a chicken egg carton? Also what do you do to hatch? Take them out of the carton or just stop "turning" them?

HI there
not much help but im in Cambridge. Theres a place near stowmarket (might not be any closer to you) called birdways. I think the site is no longer running but the shop is still open. If hats too far you could check out birdtrader or even preloved to find some.
Hope that helps
Nice article. I heard this a while back from a friend of mine and thought it was weird. I am a chicken fan aswell as a quail fan so an inbetween is quite cool. Shame about sterility though.
picture D is the best chicken I ever saw! Haha
I normally keep mine separate. But, I too k a chance yesterday afternoon and put them in with the week olds... And after around 3 hrs of watching them decided they would be ok. One of the week olds seems to have taken up the postion of parent! When I woke up this morning the first thing I did...
Hey guys, so I had some cots hatch last weekend and put them in my brooder and ive had some Chinese painted (button) quail hatch today. Do you think I could put the new chicks in with the week old cots? I have another brooder on the go but its full of 3wk old cots!
I have some of the paler ones with a lot of dark speckles in my brooder at the minute. I would podt pics but it wont allow me to on my phone:( I hope they end up with the red heads though as they are really nice!
