Thought to pop back: The girls laid their first egg since before Thanksgiving today so there is still hope for you! Hope your girls get it together quickly.
Woot!
I'm experiencing exactly the same thing you describe. Haven't had an egg since before Thanksgiving. I thought we were done with the moult but lately I've noticed downy feathers again. Chickens don't seem unhappy but do spend quite a bit of time in the coop rather than outside in the run. No...
It might be a lighting issue. We have outside security lights on a timer which kind of shine in their general direction. But we've always had them and it's not normally a problem. Typically, both chickens go in to the coop at dusk for bed as they should -- just sometimes I see her still out...
So, I have 2 chickens that are about 1 year old. They've been quite happy doing their chicken thing without too many issues this whole time. Last night we came home late at around 11:30pm and I saw one of my chickens, Sophia (Light Brahma), down in the run instead of up in the coop asleep...
I put a piece of old linoleum on the bottom of the nest box, then covered that with hay. The girls tend to push the hay aside before they lay but I think the lino helps cusion the fall. I've only ever had one cracked egg. I also think checking to make sure they get enough calcium and that the...
Is Kelp Meal for the garden the same as Kelp Meal you feed your chickens? Is organic kelp meal like this ok to give my girls as a supplement?
I know 'food grade' is important, so maybe this is a stupid question since 'graden grade' is not 'food grade' ... or is it and it just isn't...
My chickens cannot free range and must be kept in their pen. I try to give them green treats on occasion but they mainly eat the organic grower feed I buy for them (plus free choice oyster shell). They seem healthy and happy.
But their yolks really aren't any different to the store bought...
I have two chickens just 1 year old, a Black Australorp (Charlotte) and a Light Brahma (Sophia). They are super sweet, have been laying as usual, eating well and seem to be happy. I have noticed over the last few weeks that the Brahma, Sophia, is losing weight. Her keel bone protudes sharply...
I have a ridge vent all along the roof line of my coop. It works with the soffits that run along the length of each long side. You can't see the soffits (they are the extra gap where the overhang of the roof doesn't fit flush to the walls due to the roof framing and run the length of both...
The coop part of my set up is 4'x4' and has been great. I have soffit vents along with the ridge vent, as well as windows on 3 sides (pop door on 4th) to allow for ventilation which has been working well. Maybe think of including some soffits? My feed and water is in the run part so no space...
Looks great to me and far superior to the little coop you bought. What are the dimensions? you can build a ramp for the chickens to reach the shelves (or relocate the shelves altogether). no worries.
