So pretty! Unfortunately, they are already bit skittish. I was keeping them with Momma, in the garden, but I have been working on so may other projects since they have been here, I haven't spent that much time with them. Waffles (Momma), who is normally very friendly, was also very skittish...
I hope so also. I have no other roo's in the backyard flock now, so there are no others to contend with, at least. If these two get along and don't get too mouthy or aggressive, they can both stay and have the cushy life of a spoiled backyard chicken. We'll see.
I have never had bantams...
Wow, you are good! I have never even heard of that breed. I just looked it up, and I think you hit the nail on the head! They do have that tall stature of a game bird.
Thanks!
I got these 3 bantams when they were around a week old, I am guessing by the feathering. At the time, I did not care what kind of chickens they were because I just needed some emergency babies and was just so thrilled to find them I didn't even ask. I had a broody hen who only had 1 egg hatch...
Have you checked out your local freecycle site? I received enough materials from 1 post to put together 2 coops and 1 hutch. It's a great site to not only receive, but to list & get rid of things you don't want anymore without having to load the up and drop them at donation.
If you haven't...
Also wondering if you tried this. I wanted to try this spring. It's going to be an experiment on how much fodder, how little grain, since feed cost is the main expense of raising broilers. Also, what breed did you do? I'm hoping I'll be successful since I'm leaning towards a heavy breed...
Did you ever figure out what the issue was? I have a Peking with what sounds like the same thing. One leg is fine, the other seems paler, a bit smaller and is just about useless to her. I have been supplementing niacin from the get-go & calcium for a while (over a month) with no significant...
If you look at the square part of a zip tie, there is a little tab in there that catches the ribs on the strap. You should be able to insert a small flat head screw driver in there between the tab and strap which will allow it to slide freely.
Hi all! I've been around or owned chickens my entire life, but ducks are new to me. I finally took the plunge and got 5 Pekings, who turned 2 months old today. Boy, they grew fast!!! We are enjoying them so much! What personalities!
I have a few questions about them if someone wouldn't...
Thanks, sorry about your chicken also. I really think it's the fluid build-up pushing against her organs creating loss of blood flow, hence the dark comb, that caused sudden her death. I feel awful that I didn't realize what was wrong and hope she wasn't in too much pain. I am relieved...
