apart from their usual feed, over the last few weeks as teh temperature is dropping and my girls moulting i have been giving them an oatmeal mixture made with milk and yoghurt and black sunflower seeds. today i had some left over bread, so i heated some milk in micro and added the bread...
well i am in town, but we have garden allotments just over the fence from us, so chances are they are there
but also our bin emptying service has been cut back to once every 2 weeks, so am wondering if there is more food around for the rats to help themselves to
have made the run as secure...
we have had 2 or 3 rats running around in our garden for a couple of weeks.
we have put down rat traps, but no use., so over last couple of days have been putting down rat poison
today, i notice that the rats have been in the chicken run.
obviously, we have to make run more secure, but...
i have 6 chooks.
a couple of weeks ago, i took them to the usual place for boarding for 8 days.
while i was away 1 of my chooks died. the farmer added another to the flock without incident
i collected them last tuesday, and since then have had no eggs at all. this is strange, because...
i am in scotland. in the middle of winter it gets dark around 4pm and doesnt get light until around 8am.
do the chickens go to bed at 4pm and sleep all the way through till it gets light?

i keep my eggs in a pretty little egg basket i bought in France.
Last night my sleeve caught in the metal tail feathers and it crashed to the floor.
there were 6 eggs in the basket, and 4 of them smashed on the floor. *bugger* i thought, and started to clean up the mess, then i find another...
my chooks are garbage gobblers. i havent found anything yet that they dont treat as a feast!
last sunday, i was completely amazed as they demolished the remains of a cooked breakfast that i made for my son and his wife and hubby, it consisted of haggis, fried eggs, sausages, bacon, mushrooms...
