3 hens, various breeds, 19-20 mos old, near Colorado Springs, CO

I have 3 of 7 hens left, 1 Ameraucana/Easter Egger, 1 RIR, and 1 hybrid, perhaps a sex link or cinnamon queen. They are all about 19-20 months old, hatched July or August 2011. I just got them to help a friend, but they're not adjusting to my flock & my girls are very dominant towards this...

Silkie/Mille Fleur D'Uccles bantam cockerel, young rooster in Widefield, CO

Have a cute, though nervous when handled Silkie/Mille Fleur D'Uccles cross Bantam cockerel for sale. Born in September of last year, so he's about 5 months old. His sire was a MFD and hen is a white Silkie. Looking for a home of his own, perhaps to be part of a breeding program to introduce the...

Is anyone else raising fall broilers? Our chicks came today: 8/18

I don't know what my runt has, but it seems to now have an issue with food absorption since its poop is not looking normal. Might have to put it down if it doesn't improve. But as you say, their will to live despite their issues is amazing.

Is anyone else raising fall broilers? Our chicks came today: 8/18

Hi, I'm also in CO and have been affected by the increased prices. I've switched to pellet feed for my layers which has dramatically lowered waste and I add fermented whole wheat & whole milo along with some of the fermented juices to the pellet food. This combo has lowered my birds' consumption...

Speckled Sussex Hatchery Birds - Where did you get yours?

Wanted to mention I got some SS from the local feedstore who buys from Privett out of NM about 2 weeks ago. The cockerel is extra tall with larger legs, bigger than I've seen in my other SS roosters, and these don't seem to have as much white as my others. They are young, about 3-4 weeks old...

Is anyone else raising fall broilers? Our chicks came today: 8/18

Hi, sorry to hear of the problems you've had with your bunch. I had 28 arrive on 8/29 and one was a 'runt,' half the size of the others and even now, 3.5 weeks later, it doesn't seem to have grown to the size of the smallest of the others. It also has this bubble of skin between its neck and...

Is anyone else raising fall broilers? Our chicks came today: 8/18

I ordered 25 black broilers and ended up receiving 28 last Thursday. One is literally a runt as he/she is half the size of the others and had to be handraised or helped a little in order to survive. He/she almost didn't make it but thankfully is now back in with the rest as of yesterday, but...

Anyone try to hatch babies from 5 month old pullets' eggs?

Well, just to update those interested we got 1 out of 3 SS eggs to hatch. 'Suzie' as I call him/her had a bit of a rough start and was rejected by momma, but I've been handraising him/her since she hatched and she's doing much better. Probably won't try this again, but it was interesting to see...
